- Qualification Criteria: Intel will prescreen and select participants from applicants who meet the list of qualifying criteria:
- Participant must be an attendee of the SC07 conference in Reno, Nevada.
- Participant must be associated with a not-for-profit organization in the United States, such as a college or university (student, professor, faculty, etc.).
- Participant's associated college or university must confirm they have physical space and staff to support the cluster should they win, as well as confirm the type of work the cluster will be used for.
- Participant must describe in 25 words or less the type of research that will be performed on the cluster should they win.
- Entry: No purchase necessary, one entry per person. Contestants must enter individually; no teams allowed.
- Judging Criteria:
- Participants agree to abide by the scoring and stated results of the moderator at each "Build Your Own Cluster" (BYOC) activity.
- Assembled clusters and cluster functionality must be validated by an Intel representative in order to be eligible for prize consideration.
- Disqualification: Contestants must not be present at any of the BYOC events prior to their scheduled activity time. Contestants must not receive any outside help during any phase of the contest. Doing so will result in immediate disqualification.
- Ties: In the event of a tie, there will be an approved tie-breaker activity to determine the winner.
- Forfeit: In the event of a no-show (not appearing at the Intel booth 30 minutes before the scheduled BYOC activity) or forfeit, the participant will be disqualified and an alternative participant will be called to participate in the BYOC event.
- Prizes: The participant with the shortest BYOC time (start to finish as judged by the event moderator) will win the 8-node cluster that will be donated by Intel to the university or college affiliated with that participant.
- Notification: Intel will notify the winning participant's associated college or university in writing within 30 days that they are eligible to receive the BYOC cluster as a charitable donation.
- Prize Forfeiture: Should the college or university refuse the BYOC donation, the participant with the next shortest time to complete the BYOC activity will be declared the winner. This process will continue until the donation of the cluster is accepted or all participants' associated institutions refuse the donation.
- Taxes: Any federal, state or local taxes on the donation of the BYOC cluster are the responsibility of the winning participant's associated college or university.
- Publicity: Acceptance of the donation of the BYOC cluster constitutes permission to use the winner's name, likeness, and voice for publicity purposes for this or similar promotion without further compensation. The winner's name and associated college or university may be posted on www.intel.com.
- Contest Cancellation: Intel reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel or suspend this contest and distribution of prizes should a virus, bug, or other cause beyond the control of Intel corrupt the administration, security, or proper operation of the contest.
- Dispute Resolution: Applicants agree that Intel has the sole right to determine the participants and winners of the contest and all matters or disputes arising from the contest and that its determination is final and binding. There are no prize substitutions, transfers, or cash equivalents permitted except at the sole discretion of Intel.
- Ineligible to Participate: Employees of Intel, their affiliates, advertising and promotional agencies, and the immediate families of each are not eligible. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Void where prohibited.
- Privacy Policy: Personal information obtained in connection with this contest will be handled in accordance as set forth in the Intel privacy policy at: www.intel.com/sites/corporate/privacy.htm.
